ON HOLD

The line between beauty and terrible taste can sometimes be incredibly thin. And isn’t Franck Muller the perfect example of that?

People say only fools never change their minds, and that’s exactly how I feel about this brand. A year ago, I probably wouldn’t have given it a second look. That’s the funny thing about the watch community: when everyone tells you something is awful, you rarely take the time to discover it for yourself.

Let’s be honest. Many Franck Muller models are, in my opinion, simply unwearable. Too large, poorly proportioned, and often just plain over the top. But you’d have to be acting in bad faith not to appreciate the smaller and mid-sized references. Their proportions are spot on, and the design is genuinely clever.

Sure, you can criticise the movements. I won’t argue with that. Their quartz calibres are about as basic as they come. But that’s not really the point. You’re buying a Franck Muller for the design. To me, that’s exactly what makes it interesting.

Once again, the value for money is exceptional. For the price of a tired, overpolished Datejust, you get a watch with a truly distinctive design, a real point of view, and a level of execution that’s far better than most people are willing to admit.
